Allison Van Beek is the new ETO Director
On July 05, 2022, Tom Coyle, Vice Dean, Undergraduate, FASE announced that Allison has accepted a new role at the Education Technology Office! Read Tom's announcement below.
Dear colleagues,
I am happy to welcome Allison Van Beek into her new role as Director, Education Technology Office (ETO). This change recognizes her increased administrative and strategic responsibilities as FASE looks towards the future and the implementation of technology in teaching, both in-person and online.
Not new to FASE, Allison has led the ETO for nine years, expanding the office from one full-time staff member to six (meet Anna, Inga, Cheryl, Irina, Marisa, Karththigan and Prianka). While continuing a mission to provide excellent service and support for U of T's learning management system (from Blackboard to Canvas/Quercus), she initiated an expansion into educational content production (see the ETO's projects). During the Pandemic, the ETO responded by expanding their technical support resources and streamlining processes (see the ETO services page). Looking forward, she hopes to complete her PhD sooner rather than later, continuing her research in how technology enables (or disables) active learning in MY150.
If you're interested in talking about anything technology, teaching, and learning, in any modality, please send her an email (allison.vanbeek@utoronto.ca) and/or book a consultation with a member of the ETO Team. She'd also love for you to sign up for the FASE EdTech Tip Sheet (you can also read past issues).
Please join me in congratulating Allison on her new role!
Tom
