Here is an update coming to Quercus from the latest Canvas Release (May 15, 2021).
New Assignment submission option: Student Annotation Submissions
Starting on May 15, 2021, there will be a new submission option for Assignments in Quercus. Instructors will be able to select the Student Annotation submission type and then upload a file for students to annotate and submit directly in Assignments.
The file that should be annotated is uploaded for the assignment, and students can use the annotation tools with DocViewer to complete the assignment. Instructors can then view completed submissions in SpeedGrader with the student’s annotations shown for grading.
This new assignment submission option allows instructors to provide a file as an assignment and allows students to annotate the file directly in Quercus. Currently, if instructors want to assign an annotation assignment, students would have to either print the file or take a photo to submit.
Note: The Student Annotation Assignment option is not currently supported for Peer Review Assignments, for Group Assignments, and for use with the mobile app.
This Week's Faculty Question
Q: I want to export my Quercus course so I can reuse the content in a new course next term. There are 2 areas in the course that have an Export Course Content button. Do they both do the same thing?
A: In any Quercus course, there are two areas where you get an Export Course Content button. One is located in the Modules area and one is located in the Course Settings area. Although both buttons are called Export Course Content, they have different functions. Notice too from the attached screenshots below, that their associated icons are also different.
The button found in the Modules area is really meant for students and allows them to view course content offline as an HTML file. You can find information on how this works on the following Canvas guide for students: How do I view course content offline as an HTML file as a student?
The button found in the Course Settings, is the one you need to use to create an export package of your course content for archiving or for re-importing into a new course shell.
