This week: MS Stream, MyMedia Updates, more Webinars!

In this Weekly Update:

  1. MS Stream
  2. MyMedia Updates
  3. New Webinars

MS Stream

Still thinking of what software to use for your online lectures? It's worth taking a look at Microsoft Streams. Not only do all of your Teams recordings are stored in MS Streams automatically, but they are retained there forever until the owner chooses to delete it. This is very handy for instructors who don't have too much space on their computers but would love to retain old lectures for future reference. Not only that, MS Streams also automatically creates closed captioning for videos, which are required under the AODA. You can also add quizzes and forms to a video on MS Stream - they are very handy for promoting engagement amongst your students. If you're interested in MS Stream, feel free to check it out here!

Please note that while the video owner can choose to download the original video onto their device, other viewers only have the option to stream.

MyMedia Update

Good news - MyMedia now supports screen capture! You can now record directly to MyMedia without any third party applications. MyMedia offers three types of capture - screen, camera, and microphone. However, please note that if you choose to record both your screen and your camera, you will end up with two videos (one of your talking head with the voice and the other of your screen) rather than one video with the camera overlay. Snagit still offers more features, such as cropping, video trimming, and other special effects, but the greatest upside to MyMedia is that instructors no longer need to upload individual files - once you record in MyMedia, it will be uploaded directly to MyMedia.

This can save you a lot of time and stress if you're the forgetful type! For more information, check out How do I use MyMedia to record my screen?
