Module Overview

Physical quantities, basic elements, common terminology and fundamental laws that underlie linear circuit analysis: Ohm’s Law, Kirchoff’s current law and Kirchoff’s voltage law.

Learning Outcomes

  • Definition of current, voltage, power and reference directions
  • Learn passive sign convention
  • Learn characteristics of common circuit elements
  • Learn Kirchoff’s Current Law (KCL), Kirchoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) and conventions
  • Apply circuit analysis techniques to simple circuits
  • Series and parallel connection of elements
  • Voltage and current division in resistive circuits
