Module Overview

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the following crystal structures: body centred cubic, diamond cubic, zinc blende, fluorite, perovskite
  2. Calculate the geometrically ideal interstitial site size for the following interstitial sites: tetrahedral, octahedral, simple cubic
  3. Sketch crystallographic vectors within cubic unit cells, given the direction indices
  4. Sketch crystallographic planes within cubic unit cells, given the Miller indices
  5. Determine the correct direction indices given a crystallographic vector drawn within a cubic unit cell
  6. Determine the correct Miller indices given a crystallographic plane drawn within a cubic unit cell
  7. Show how the seven crystal systems are defined by combinations of three angles and three lattice parameters
