How we can help you archive your Bb Collaborate Recordings

At the end of each term, it is recommended that you personally download and archive any recordings that you'd like to keep that are currently accessible only on Bb Collaborate (see our End of Term Checklist for this and other recommendations to close up your course). This year this is of particular importance, as there is a mass clean up (read: deletion) planned for June 30, 2021 (please see memo from ACT regarding Collaborate Recordings) for content recorded before May 01, 2021. While this deadline is earlier than perhaps desired, recordings are NOT copied during a course copy from term to term so manual downloading and archiving is part of the process each year. As of April 23, 2021, no announcement regarding Zoom recordings has been posted, it is expected that a similar announcement will be made. This deletion announcement does not affect content uploaded to a video hosting service (e.g. MyMedia, YouTube, MS Stream).

IMPORTANT! This service is ONLY for faculty members. The ETO cannot enter Quercus courses without permission from the instructor; neither teaching assistants nor students can request the download of lecture videos. If you are requesting on behalf of a faculty member, please have them fill out the request form. If you have access to download the recordings on your own (many faculty have enabled this), please feel free to do so.

Before requesting this service, we ask you to consider:

  1. How many videos do I have? If you have less than ten videos, it is likely more efficient to download the videos on your own versus setting us up to do this on your behalf. There's a bit of administrative set up and in our experience, this is the threshold of when it becomes useful to teaching teams. If you decide to undertake this on your own, you might review the instructions on how to download Bb Collaborate Recordings.
  2. Do you really, really need to keep the recordings? Webinar sessions can be dynamic, fun, and - yes - full of hiccups. You might consider if you truly will share these videos again or if it is okay that they disappear. This is especially true for videos heavily featuring students (or others) who did not grant permission to be in videos that are re-used.
  3. Is your content already on MyMedia (or other hosting service)? If so, then you are all set! MyMedia is a long-term archival media storage solution. If you've been uploading your content there already (or to another streaming service like MS Stream or YouTube) then your content is ready for re-use.

Who should use this service?

  1. If you have a high amount of videos. We know time is tight; we can help!
  2. If you plan to review or reuse the video content in future terms. This is absolutely the reason why you should download and archive your content. It allows you review and repurpose the work you've done and possibly save you time for future development. (You might even consider contacting us to see if we can help you spruce up this video content.)

Please note that in order to complete this work, a EdTech Office Work Study student will be enrolled in your course (temporarily, as a course builder). Your confirmation of this permission is included on the webform.
