What's happening in the world of FASE EdTech this month? In this issue, we're recapping the EdTech Workshop (ETWS) 2023: CTRL +Shift! Held on May 17, 2023 in the Myhal Centre, the Workshop saw about 275 people vie for one button maker (who knew buttons would be so popular?). But more seriously, we can't thank the speakers, volunteers and attendees enough - you made it a wonderful day!

DESIGN TIPS
1. You better not be acting like you're in a Wes Anderson film at the EdTech Workshop!

We sure are! For this year's recap video of the EdTech Workshop, we wanted to try something a little different from previous years (you can watch the 2021 and 2019 videos, too!).  The backstory - in April, content creator Ava Williams started a new trend on social media when she posted a quick travel video produced in the style of Wes Anderson.  Anderson is the director of such films as Life Aquatic and The Grand Budapest Hotel and his work is distinct in its look, feel, and sound.

Instead of producing a video that was a sequence of b-roll shots, we decided to be more intentional in our approach (see Making the EdTech Recap Video: An Intentional and Collaborative Approach for a deep dive) and jump on the Wes Anderson train (which probably looks like the one from his other film The Darjeeling Limited). This video was made possible by our creative and collaborative production team, all of our willing on-screen participants (listed in the video caption below) and Marisa's editing magic.

Want to watch more videos in this style? Have a look at the Wes Anderson Trend compilation video.

Watch the EdTech Workshop 2023 Recap video featuring, in order of appearance (session leaders' names link to their information page): Cheryl Lee, Marisa Curmi, Elias Polcheira, Allison Van Beek, Court Van Beek, Iain McPherson, Jess Blackburn, Susan McCahan, Inga Breede, Matt Everson, Joshua Shum, Nidhi Sachdeva, Alexander Olson, Ayoob Ghalami, Gustavo Moriena, Daniel Cardenas, Shannon McCaw, Chris Bouwmeester, Tom Coyle, Bree McEwan, Shai Cohen, Kristopher Calanza, James Zhan, Camelia Karimian Pour, Naomi Steenhof, Kathleen Scheaffer, Vivienne Luk, Swati Naidu, Anna Menezes, Anna Limanni, Irina Belaya, and Brian Da Silva. A big thank you to the participants!

This article is the first of a series that we will release over the summer to go behind-the-scenes of planning the EdTech Workshop (next up: why we chose Articulate Rise to build the ETWS Attendee Information Package).

VIDEO TIPS
2. Watch EdTech Workshop 2023 session recordings

Did you miss a session? The recordings are posted and ready for watching! You can access the EdTech Workshop 2023 session recordings in a few different ways:
  1. Videos are embedded on the session information pages (see the session overview for a list of all sessions)
  2. Links to the recordings have been added to the Workshop schedule
  3. Watch all the videos in the ETWS Recordings playlist on the ETO's YouTube Channel
Sessions that were recorded are available publicly; please feel free to share these with your colleagues and others who might be interested. Note that some sessions were not recorded, by request of the speaker.

FEEDBACK TIPS
3. Submit feedback about the Workshop (last call!)

We’re not quite done with the Workshop yet! We want to make sure we keep improving and delivering excellent workshops that get you excited about EdTech (while having some fun at the same time!). That's why we would be grateful if you could spare about 10 minutes to fill out our feedback survey and help us make the next workshop even better.

We value your honest feedback, and rest assured, your responses will be completely anonymous (unless you opt to share your name). We want to know what worked, what didn't, and any ideas you might have to take things up a notch.
Submit your feedback about the Workshop

Can I enter grades and feedback in Quercus for a paper-based quiz? (May 25, 2023) | We are back to doing our quizzes in-person, on paper. I found it easier to provide the feedback via Quercus.

Is it possible to release assignment comments without releasing the marks in Quercus? (April 20, 2023) | Is that possible to do, or do I need to release the numerical grade and the comments at the same time?
