The widespread use of generative AI has raised complex copyright issues related to both the training data used and the outputs produced by these tools. Canada has not yet amended its copyright law in response. This event will explore those copyright issues, and possible solutions under consideration.

Speaker: Dr. Jean Dryden
Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Information, University of Toronto
Jean Dryden is a well-known copyright scholar and educator. She holds a PhD and a Master of Laws in intellectual property. Her research interests focus on access to cultural heritage material, particularly the barriers posed by copyright. She represented the International Council on Archives at WIPO’s copyright committee from 2015-2024, and continues to serve on the ICA’s Expert Group on Legal Matters.
