Indigenizing Curriculum: An Introduction (In-Person)

October 7, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

This session introduces participants to the principles of indigenization, decolonization and reconciliation in postsecondary education. Participants will explore how Indigenous worldviews and knowledge systems can inform curriculum design and teaching practices across disciplines. Through case studies, discussion, and practical strategies, the session encourages a shift from tokenistic inclusion to transformative curriculum change rooted in Indigenous sovereignty and agency. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define and distinguish the concepts of indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation in the context of curriculum development.
  • Analyze how Indigenous concepts and worldviews can reshape disciplinary perspectives and teaching practices.
  • Evaluate current curriculum approaches and identify opportunities for integrating Indigenous content and voices.
  • Design instructional strategies that respectfully incorporate Indigenous knowledge systems and support reconciliation efforts.
