Fostering Engaging Classroom Discussions: From Quiet Rooms to Active Learning (Online)

This workshop provides teaching assistants with practical strategies to transform quiet, unresponsive classroom sessions into vibrant learning communities where students actively participate and engage. Participants will learn to identify motivating factors for meaningful classroom discourse, recognize common barriers to participation, and apply design frameworks to create student-centred discussion activities suitable for both in-person and online environments. Through hands-on exercises, attendees will develop discussion-based activities and learn moderation techniques that encourage collaborative learning. This workshop is ideal for teaching assistants seeking to cultivate.
