What is FASE's Lecture Capture Program?
The FASE Lecture Capture Program supports instructors within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering who would like to record their on campus classes. The ETO team will capture as many courses as possible (that fit the program criteria), as determined by scheduling limitations. We try to hire work study students during the academic year to support the filming required for this program.
This program serves courses where:
- the primary activity is chalk n'talk (or other non-digitally presented) course sessions
- the recordings are shared to all students
- the recordings are available for the duration of their course
This program is not for courses where:
- you plan to record only one (or a few) classes (see how to request special filming requests)
- you present digitally (e.g., slide deck, tablet) as this type of content can be recorded with built-in capturing technology (see how to administer OpenCast, supported by the team at Learning Space Management (LSM))
How can I join the FASE Lecture Capture Program?
We are currently accepting submissions for the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 terms. For participation in the Fall 2023 program, submit your request by August 11, 2023.
Lecture Capture Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The FASE Lecture Program is designed to be as easy on the instructor as possible. Here's an overview of the process:
- Before Term Begins (e.g., August) - Instructors request participation in the Lecture Capture Program for the upcoming fall and winter terms (we send another request in December for January, but you're welcome to sign up early). After you submit your request, we'll contact to you to learn a little bit more about your course and to make sure it's a good fit for the program.
- During the Term (e.g., September to December) - ETO Staff physically attend each of your classes. We provide a wireless microphone and film the class activity (from a non-invasive location). We edit and share the recording via your Quercus course (on your preferred hosting solution; we usually use YouTube or MyMedia).
- After the Term Ends (e.g., January) - ETO staff will contact you to discuss how and if you'd like to archive your recordings. We arrange to transfer your content to you for long-term storage. The ETO does not provide long-term archival storage of video content but we will keep your original files for one year after the conclusion of your course.
