Faculty Question of the Week (May 14, 2026)

Each week we'll use this space to share a question (or more!) that we've received about Quercus and other Academic Toolbox tools.

This week's question is: Is there a way to delete or replace an originally scanned and uploaded booklet in Crowdmark Administered assessments?

Q: My course has an in-person exam using Crowdmark. After uploading my scanned booklets, I noticed that one booklet had poor image quality and formatting issues. I rescanned it and uploaded it again. I’m worried this may have created two duplicate copies of the same booklet in the grading interface. Is there any way to delete the original scanned file I uploaded in Crowdmark?

A: It depends on whether your exam uses a non-QR-coded or QR-coded assessment format, since each workflow handles duplicate uploads differently.

Non-QR-coded assessments

If your exam uses a non-QR-coded assessment format, there is a Delete option under the Manage Scans section.

If there is an issue with the initial upload, you can delete the affected booklet, then rescan and upload it properly. Otherwise, uploading the same booklet twice will create duplicate copies in the grading interface.

QR-coded assessments

Unlike non-QR-coded assessments, QR-coded assessments do not include a direct delete option. However, since each page has a unique QR code, re-uploading the same booklet will automatically replace any previously uploaded pages with matching QR codes.

In most cases, issues with the initial upload can be resolved by uploading a corrected version of the same booklet again.

Tips for scanning and uploading booklets

  • Follow Crowdmark’s recommended scanning settings when scanning completed booklets
  • Before uploading scanned booklets, double-check that all files have consistent formatting and good scan quality
  • Ensure that QR codes (if applicable) or other page-positioning graphics are not cut off, obscured, or misaligned during scanning
  • Avoid uploading unnecessary pages that are not needed for grading. Pages that are not part of the booklet template will not be gradable and will only remain in the Manage Scans section once uploaded. However, for QR-coded assessment formats, these error pages cannot be deleted from the platform once uploaded
