Hello Marisa!
Marisa Curmi joins the EdTech Office (ETO) as our new multi-media specialist, content production.
As the type of work performed by the ETO changes and grows, it was clear that we needed to expand the team's resources for producing high-quality instructional videos that promote and encourage learning (and run on sentences, apparently). We're very excited to announce that we've scored a talented and experience multi-media specialist!
Marisa brings with her a wide range of knowledge and experience in multimedia production and her interest in all things media-related dates to her post-secondary education at the University of Guelph-Humber, where she completed a four-year Media Studies program, specializing in Image Arts, with the goal of eventually becoming a commercial food photographer. After spending a few years trying to gain her footing in the industry, she quickly learned that the fast-paced nature of pursuing photography full time just wasn’t the right fit for her. She took some time off to reassess her goals and try something different, and then an opportunity opened up for a temporary position that eventually became permanent at the Faculty of Dentistry in 2010 as a Multimedia Technician (later changed to Academic Technologist) in the Media Services department. Not expecting to spend more than a year there, Marisa loved the role and made it her own, while quickly realizing that U of T was where she wanted to be. During her many years spent at Dentistry, Marisa gained an incredible amount of experience and developed a strong skill set in digital media production and AV and classroom technology support. She worked on many media projects and initiatives from educational videos and clinical photography to implementing and overseeing the faculty’s lecture capture system. One of the things she appreciates the most about her career path so far is that she is constantly learning new and interesting things every single day on the job and she is very excited to carry that on in her new role at the ETO!
Outside of the office, Marisa enjoys practicing yoga and meditation, watching reruns of her favourite tv sitcoms, and tending to her plants.
