We're counting down to the EdTech Workshop 2023: CTRL +shift - just over a month! Before the workshop
- When and where is the EdTech Workshop 2023 happening?
-
This year's workshop is happening in person in the Myhal Centre on May 17, 2023. The Workshop will run from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm (see the schedule for our most up to date information).
- Is the conference hybrid?
-
The 2023 Workshop is not hybrid. While we will be recording the sessions and posting for viewing/review online after the Workshop, we will not be running concurrent online experiences during the day. There are a few reasons that motivated us to make this decision:
- We lack the hardware and software infrastructure. The rooms aren't equipped with the hardware and systems to make this an equitable experience for those in person and online.
- We don't have the human support. We also are limited in human resources; we just don't have enough people to ad hoc it for the day.
We do hope that we'll be able to offer future Workshops (hello 2025!) in a hybrid modality, ensuring just as interactive and positive an experience as those attending in person. -
- Can I come for only part of the day?
-
Absolutely! You're welcome for as little or as much of the day as you can manage. We'll have someone at the registration table all day, so please grab your nametag when you do arrive. This is also key to your access to any of the food/snacks throughout the day.
- Who can attend the EdTech Workshop 2023?
-
The EdTech Workshop is a free event for those in the U of T community - all instructors, staff, librarians, students, everyone - is welcome! The key thing is to want to learn more about teaching with technology.
- Do I need to register for sessions in advance?
-
Nope! Just head to the session you're most interested in. And if you want to switch sessions mid-way through, that's okay too. The Session Schedule can be found on the back of your badge, in the attendee booklet, or on our website.
- What if I can no longer make it to the Workshop?
-
We completely understand. If you would like to cancel your registration, we'd appreciate it if you submitted our cancellation form. This also lets you opt in to receiving notice about the video recordings (and helps us save some budget on lunches).
During the workshop
- Where can I pick up my registration badge?
-
Just head over to our registration booth. It's located on the first floor of Myhal building across the south entrance.
- What rooms in Myhal will the sessions be presented in?
-
- Core Sessions take place in: MY150, MY430, and MY440.
- Drop in Sessions and other activities take place in: MY Lobby, MY360, and the Myhal Visualization Facility
- How long is each session?
-
Each session is 30 minutes long, followed by a 10-minute break. The Hands-On sessions are a bit longer, at 45 minutes instead of 30 minutes.
- When and where will the 'Are you Digital or Analogue?
-
"Are you Team Digital or Analogue?" activities will be available throughout the whole day (including during lunch and breaks) in the Myhal lobby.
- What time and where can I grab continental breakfast?
-
Continental breakfast will be available during the workshop registration in the Myhal Lobby (first floor) starting 9 am.
- What time and where is the lunch break?
-
A light buffet lunch will be in the Myhal Lobby at 12:10 pm.
After the workshop
- Will the sessions be recorded?
-
We'll be recording as many sessions as possible. However, we will not be recording any of the Hands-on sessions or any additional sesssions where the sessions leaders have asked us to not record). Bear in mind though that the workshop is fairly interactive and some of the sessions will not translate to a recording as well. Additionally, some pieces of the sessions might not be included in the recording (e.g., audience participation, reflection). After the workshop, we'll aim to post the sessions within two weeks.
You can find information about whether a session is being recorded in the Review the Sessions section on our website.
- Can I keep my badge after the workshop?
-
Yes! You can definitely keep your badge after the event. However, if you don't want to, you can leave your name badge with a volunteer when you leave the event.
