AI Teaching and Learning Series 4 – Teaching in Two Lanes

January 29 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Presented by: UTM, RGASC

Online on Thursday, January 29th, 2026, 10:00am – 11:00am on Microsoft Teams

As generative AI becomes embedded across higher education, instructors face a key challenge: verifying authentic learning while preparing students to work in an AI-integrated world. This session introduces the Two-Lane Assessment Framework, a practical model that supports instructors in balancing these needs. Lane 1 focuses on secure, supervised assessments that confirm core understanding and competency. Lane 2 supports open, unsupervised assessment for learning, where AI is explicitly incorporated and scaffolded as part of students’ workflow. Participants will consider how the framework can be applied within their own course contexts to ensure rigorous assessment practices that also reflect contemporary digital realities.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

· Distinguish between Lane 1 (AI-secured) and Lane 2 (AI-integrated) assessments and explain the pedagogical role of each.

· Review current course assessments to determine lane alignment and identify where integrity-focused adjustments may be required.

· Design a low-stakes Lane 2 activity that scaffolds students’ productive and ethical use of AI tools.

Visit the RGASC website for details on how to register for both in-person and online options.
