Ceramics?

Learning Outcomes

  1. Contrast the mechanical behaviour of ceramics with that of metals and polymers
  2. Summarize the need to test ceramics in bending, rather than in a tensile test
  3. Explain the influence of porosity on the mechanical behaviour of ceramics
  4. Describe the stress concentration factor
  5. Use the stress concentration factor to explain the influence of crack length and of crack “sharpness” on the maximum stress in the material
