Allison Van Beek leads the Education Technology Office (ETO) in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, where she works closely with instructors, staff, and students to advance teaching and learning through thoughtful, sustainable technology practices. With over a decade of experience at the University of Toronto, Allison has grown the ETO into a dynamic, collaborative team that supports learning management systems, develops flexible and reusable digital content, and provides responsive consultation and training services.
A strong advocate for inclusive, evidence-informed educational practices, Allison is particularly interested in how technology can support meaningful active learning. Her leadership style centres on empathy, trust, and collaboration, and she takes pride in building a high-performing team that helps faculty navigate a complex and evolving teaching landscape.
Allison is currently completing her PhD, which explores how educational technologies shape instructional design in engineering classrooms. She welcomes conversations about any aspect of teaching and technology—feel free to reach out or book a consultation with a member of the ETO team.
