Faculty Question of the Week (July 16, 2026)

Each week we'll use this space to share a question (or more!) that we've received about Quercus and other Academic Toolbox tools.

This week's question is: Can I post assignment comments without grades in Quercus?

Q: I have a Quercus assignment, and I would like to release the assignment comments to help students prepare for their next assignment, but I’m not ready to post the assignment grades. Is it possible to release the comments without releasing the grades?

A: Yes! Quercus allows you to schedule the release of assignment comments and grades separately. This means that students can access your feedback to help them prepare for future assignments while their grades remain hidden until you’re ready to release them.

How to schedule separate releases for assignment comments and grades

Below are the steps to set up separate release schedules:

  1. Go to Gradebook.
  2. Locate the specific assignment column, then select the Options (three dots) icon next to the header.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select Grade Posting Policy.
  4. Make sure the Manual option is selected, then check the box for Schedule Release Dates.
  5. Under Release Options, choose Separate Schedule.
  6. Enter the future date and time when you would like comments and grades to be released. You can schedule different release dates, but the comments release must be scheduled for the same time as or earlier than the grades release.
  7. Save the settings.

Note: If you need to release comments and grades before the scheduled date, you can manually post them at any time. This will override the separate scheduled release settings.

For detailed guidance on scheduling the release of grades and comments, refer to the Canvas resource: Scheduled Feedback Release.
