Tune into Teaching: Designing a Syllabus That Works for You and Your Students

July 16 @ 2:10 pm - 3:30 pm

Facilitators:
Samantha Chang, Team Lead, Pedagogy and Educational Technologies, CTSI
Navroop Gill, Teaching & Learning Librarian, Teaching & Engagement Unit, University of Toronto Libraries

A syllabus is often the first learning experience students encounter in a course. When intentionally designed, it can do more than communicate expectations—it can spark curiosity, support belonging, and establish a strong foundation for learning. In this interactive session, participants will explore practical strategies for designing syllabus content, leveraging Quercus, and approaching syllabus design as part of an ongoing and iterative course design process. Participants will also be introduced to U of T resources that can support future course and syllabus design work.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify key elements of a U of T course syllabus
  • Explore strategies for designing syllabi that support student engagement and learning
  • Consider how Quercus and institutional resources can support syllabus design and ongoing course development
