It Starts with a Plan! Designing Effective Tutorials (Online)

October 15 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Regardless of discipline or format, good tutorials require deliberate and reflective planning, especially if they are to enhance student engagement with course content. This workshop will provide strategies for effective and efficient tutorial design. Facilitators will guide participants through crucial stages of tutorial planning, including determining the context of the lesson within the larger course and its goals; identifying and adapting tutorial learning outcomes; developing a tutorial plan and selecting activities; and evaluating and revising outcomes and goals. In particular, the workshop will focus on cultivating an engaging, accessible, and inclusive learning experience for students.
By the end of this workshop, you will:

  • Have strategies for identifying and understanding the teaching context for your tutorials.
  • Understand how to set overall and specific learning outcomes.
  • Identify a range of facilitation techniques that can engage students in achieving these goals.
  • Develop strategies to evaluate and adapt tutorial plans.
