Last Call for Winter 2023 Lecture Capture Program!

Are you interested in recording your teaching activity? The FASE Lecture Capture program is geared towards instructors who use non-digital teaching methods (e.g., chalkboard, demonstrations) and/or who are not teaching in an LSM classroom space. Read more to find out if this program is right for you!

Last Call!

This is your last chance to request to participate in the Winter 2023 Lecture Capture program. Please submit this webform to express interest in joining the program (closing Friday, December 09, 2022 at 5:00 pm). The ETO team will schedule for as many courses as possible, as determined by scheduling limitations.

Who is eligible for the program?

Before you submit the form, consider if your course fits the lecture capture profile. The lecture program is labour-intensive (a person comes to your course to record), so we focus on capturing classes where the instructor:

  1. teaches primarily using non-digital modalities. If you are teaching using slide content or other digitally-displayed materials, you can use LSM's OpenCast system (if in an LSM classroom; check this using LSM's instructor look up) or using screen capture software (see our guide to using lecture capture software on your lap top).
  2. intends to record and share the semester's in-person activity (usually lectures but not tutorials) to the entire class. This service is not intended for accomodations for selected students. If you are seeking ideas on how to accomplish that, please contact fase.edtech@utoronto.ca.
  3. has been assigned a non-LSM classroom and other self-capture techniques won't work. Before lecture capture, we'll investigate whether self-capture using a phone or other camera might be an option (with the ETO providing editing support).

What is the last day that I can join the Lecture Capture Program?

This form closes on Friday, December 09, 2022 at 5:00 pm EST.

When will I know if I've been accepted?

The call for participation closes on December 09. The following week, we'll take a look at any requests. Before the holiday closure, you'll know whether or not your course will be captured. If we can't capture it as part of the lecture capture program, we'll provide some possible solutions for your capturing needs.

What is the FASE Lecture Capture Program?

The Lecture Capture Program supports instructors who would like to record their live course sessions and share this footage back to the students for the duration of their course. It is not intended for one off or special request captures (see how to request special filming requests). With the release of a built-in, in room content capture tool (see how to administer OpenCast, supported by the team at Learning Space Management (LSM)), the FASE Lecture Capture Program limits lecture capture to courses that a) include a high volume of non-digitally presented content (e.g. chalkboard, demonstrations) or b) occur in non-LSM classroom spaces.

Participating for the first time?

We recommend you read  frequently asked questions regarding the Lecture Capture Program including a checklist to complete before your first class, how to prepare your students (including sample text to include on your syllabus), and how long the recordings are kept for.
